A media center with a point of view

After moving into their new open-concept home, these clients realized every design decision they made—including storage—would be visible from multiple spaces. Therefore, when they discovered a need for a media center in the living room, they envisioned a unit that acted as an artful feature wall while also concealing storage. They called California Closets Vancouver to help them design a thoughtful solution that would blend seamlessly with their entire space.

“I always tell clients to put in as much lighting as their budget can afford, because it is the one and only thing that can really make a design pop!”
Emma Beaty
How California Closets did it
Design consultant Emma Beaty first established that the client wanted the unit to be 30% storage and 70% display/electronics. With that in mind, she designed a series of different sized boxes—to act as showcases—that sit on top of a row of concealed cabinetry along the bottom. One large box toward the center hosts the television, while the surrounding boxes provide beautiful display spaces for books, decor, flowers, and more. Its clean, neutral finish coordinates effortlessly with surrounding areas, and spot lighting gives the feature wall enhanced visual impact.

Final result
A media center that works hard in both style and storage. Plus, due to the living room’s lack of overhead lights, the unit’s spot lighting illuminates the display while also adding ambiance to the entire space.
