A jewel box studio for designer Ariel Gordon
Candice King, best known for her role as CarolinAriel Gordon, creator and designer of her eponymous jewelry collection, has fashioned a business that offers its clientele beauty, meaning, and delicate craftsmanship all wrapped up in the form of brilliant baubles.
Her ability to combine all these things in a pretty package also came in handy at home when travel restrictions grounded her commute to LA. Thinking about her dream WFH space, she decided to build an outdoor shed/studio that could double as a cozy guest suite and family hangout. To make the most of the space’s small footprint, Ariel turned to California Closets San Francisco’s Katy Milton to work her magic
“I wanted a big work surface, storage for office stuff, a place to securely keep jewelry samples (the cabinets have a hidden lock), a closet for hanging clothes, and built-in benches.”
How California Closets did it
Together, Katy and Ariel created a versatile custom design that included a large work desk with ample storage and a space-saving wall bed for guests. Katy used crown molding to give the cabinets flanking the bed a built-in look. Her design also included a banquette equipped with extra storage, where Ariel could enjoy lunch, play games with family, or have a comfortable meeting. Ariel selected her own whimsical floral wall-covering, which gives the entire space playful personality.
“I’m not an interior designer and I made a lot of bold choices, so it was super rewarding to see it all work so well. I also love being able to have ‘campouts’ in here with my kids.”
Final result
Multi-functional and maximized, Ariel’s studio oasis gives her flexibility, inspires productivity, and allows her to enjoy meaningful moments with her family from the comfort of home.
