Renovating a coastal cottage retreat with interior consultant and lifestyle blogger Erin Hiemstra

Erin Hiemstra is no stranger to renovation sagas. For this interior consultant and lifestyle blogger, patience always prevails.
Such is the case for her Pacific Northwest cottage retreat that she swooped up at the height of the Pandemic.
Within an hour’s commute of Seattle, including an idyllic 30-minute ferry ride, the property flanked a hidden beach she’d visited every summer growing up. Knowing the project would be a massive undertaking with plenty of plot twists and delays, the disheveled coastal home – lovingly called Hood Canal Cottage – was just the distraction she needed and the perfect inspiration for designing the serene escape she’d always wanted.

How California Closets did it
As part of the complete renovation, Erin wanted every corner of the cottage to be considered for both beauty and function. She tapped California Closets Seattle to reimagine the primary walk-in as well as convert an awkward basement closet into a larder for dry goods and seasonal items.
Having worked with the company for multiple spaces in her restored Victorian home in San Francisco, Erin knew she could count on California Closets’ custom-designed solutions to accommodate her specific storage needs and complement her Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic.

“My mission: help this home's inside match the splendor you enjoy out her windows.”

Final result
Well-appointed and restful, Hood Canal Cottage is finally a place where Erin and her family feel at home – where spaces are designed for living comfortably and the splendor of the natural surroundings shines.
